DIY Frog Invites!

It seems as though DIY projects are the things right now!  I always imagined being this crafty Mom who would make Christmas cards, birthday invitations and have all sorts of ideas for crafts with the kids.  Well, I'm a Mom!  That's a good start, right?!
Like I said in my post on Friday, everybody has a crafty friend!  I had the idea of what I wanted to do for Abe's 1st birthday invitations but I knew I could not create them without my friend Mel!  So, I talked to her and between her and I, mainly her, this is what we did!
Supplies we used:  a few nice pair of scissors; eyes for the frog; frogs; envelopes/pockets to put frogs in; ribbon and friends!

Mel found the perfect clip art and changed it in paint so it was black and white then she printed it on colored card stock.  She also free hand most of the frog, love how the frog looks!
Mel hard at work!
Jodie and Mel figuring out how we want the pockets to hold the frog.
Jodie and I cutting out the frogs, those little toes were tricky!
The pocket!
Eyes glued on the frog.  You could use the bubble eyes too but these were just as cute and cheaper!

I was actually being crafty for once!!  The ribbon was a perfect touch!!

Thanks girls for helping!!!!!
Aren't they cute?!?!?!
If I can help create this, then anybody can!!!

Kicking My Addiction

A week ago I shared with all of you that I was addicted to Diet Coke and that I was committed to giving it up.  I am proud to say that I have not had any soda for a week.  I will admit this last week has been very difficult as I have had many urges and temptations: I was in Orlando for a conference and all the meetings had Diet Coke- there were many people around me cracking open a Diet Coke and it took every ounce of me to not give in to the temptation.  I also had several migraine headaches, which were likely a result of giving Diet Coke up as my body is used to the caffeine.

I do have to thank all of you and the Evolv E84 facebook application for keeping me strong.  Every day I report my results of my challenge and along with it I announced that I was giving up Diet Coke, which I did to have my friends hold me accountable.  It has been amazing the feedback I have gotten from my Evolv family with regards to encouragement as they too have fought the addiction.

Despite the difficult week I feel proud that I am trying to make my body healthier.  Diet Soda has been proven to increase your risk of obesity and health problems such as type 2 diabetes.  When I do have the urge for some fizz I have been drinking Evolv Thin.

The hardest part is about to come in May when I got to Vegas with Jen and my friend Mary as my drink of choice is Rum and Diet...hmm I wonder what my new drink is going to be??

Happy St. Patricks Day!

Secret Revealed

With Pinterest and other crafty websites and absolutely loving photography, you would think I would be a crafty person.  Not so much!  However....

I am soooooooooooo excited to be sharing with all of you a DIY birthday card invitation for Abe's 1st birthday next month!

You read it right, me sharing a DIY project!!  I never thought the day would come that I wanted to be crafty but I think I was setting my standards too high and that's why I never wanted to try.  I think that anybody can be crafty, just like with other things in life, everybody had their own level.

And it's totally okay to ask your crafty friend to help you!  :)

You knew there was a catch, didn't you?!

So, tonight I'm meeting up with a friend and I'll be sure to share with all of you our ideas combined to make the perfect DIY invitation!

Be sure to hop on back!  :)

Easter Basket

Easter Sunday is one of my favorite holidays.  I don't know know if it's because I know Spring is right around the corner, or if it's because I love spending Sunday's together as a "family".  I usually host Easter dinner but this year will be different; I'm allowing someone else in the family to host it!  What's even better is that I get to celebrate this Easter as a mom with a child.  My daughter may be too young to find those "eggs", but at least I get to dress her up in a cute dress {that I purchased at The Children's Place yesterday in Auburn Hills}!  I did buy her a bag of plastic colored eggs, and she's got them all over the house.  I'm pretending to hope that she will get to know them well enough that she can find the eggs when grandma and grandpa hide them, lol.  The most exciting part of Easter is that I get to get her a basket!  As crafty as I am, I wanted to do something different then just buy a Easter basket--I wanted to make her one and fill it with what I want {which my husband and I will do together on our first date out with-out her this weekend........crazy......yes I did say 1st date since}

So, I don't know how to sew {but I really, really, really wanna learn} but I did find a DIY tutorial Easter basket on Etsy for $7.00.   It did involve sewing so I was able to borrow a sewing machine and gave it a shot.   I went to a fabric store and purchased two different fabrics and TA DA........

What ya think?  It's pretty small but it will work for this year!  I will have to stuff it with a bunch of goodies.  It would be really cute if I could monogram her name or initials on it BUT I'm not that talented with a sewing machine :-)

If you would like this pattern, e-mail me here

Diet Coke & Diapers

First of all.......Heidi, do NOT read this post......{sorry}!!!  Secondly, I know Diet Coke is really bad for anyone, and I also have an addiction; however, when I can get a 12 pk of Coke Products for $1.60, I'm all over it :-).  At least I drink the caffeine free, right??

This week at CVS, all Coke products are 5/$15, with receiving $5.00 extra bucks!  What's even better (for me) was I had (2) $1.00/2 diet coke 12 pks.  I got the coupon off the CVS website a while ago {you can't get it anymore, sorry}.  My final price was $8 for 5, which is $1.60 each--can't beat that!

While I was there, I also picked up another great week of diapers!

Pampers are on sale for 2/$19.  If you spend $30 of certain baby items, you get $10 extra bucks.  I also grabbed up another 3 $1.50/1 from coupons.com.  Since 3 pkgs of diapers came to $28.50 {before coupons}, I had to find another small cheap item to reach $30.  they had Gerber baby food, buy one-get one 50% off, and I had a $.75/2 from Meijer printer!  After receiving $10 extra bucks, I paid $15.16 for all three packages & 4 tubs of baby food {not pictured}.

And I couldn't help but grab up other great sales and freebies while I was there.

Zyrtec, 5 ct, $5.99, used (1) $2.00/1 from zyretc.com
Paid $3.99, recv $5.99 extra bucks
Final Price:  $2.00 Moneymaker

Reach Toothbrushes {3 pk}, $3.69 each, used (1) $2.00/2 from coupons.com
Paid $5.38, recv $4.00 extra bucks
Final Price:  $1.38 for all [6}, that's $.23 a toothbrush!!

New Purex Ultra Packs, $2.49, use (1) $1.00/1 from Sunday's Paper (3/11)
Final Price:  $1.49

Schick Hyrdro Silk Womens Razor, $9.99, use (1) $4.00/1 coupon from last month
Paid $5.99, recv $4.00 extra bucks
Final Price:  $1.99

Re-Nu Trial Size Eye Solution, $2.29 each, used (2) $2.00/1
Final Price $.29 each

What kind of deals did you get this week?

The Magical Green

My 3 year old Kylie's favorite color is GREEN.  I always hoped her favorite color would be pink or purple because that is what girls are supposed to like..right?? She gets so excited about green..green shirts, green food, green cups, green cars, Kermit the Frog..why does she like green so much?  I decided to do some research on the color GREEN to see if I could figure out if something in the color triggers children's minds and I learned the following:

-Green behind blue occupies the most space in our world
-Green is a soother and helps with relaxation
-Green helps alleviate with depression and anxiety
-Green is known worldwide for safety
-Green represents magic
-People see Green as the prime color of the world

After thinking about what GREEN really represents I now understand why Kylie loves it so much. She is used to seeing GREEN everywhere and it always represents something great: fun, relaxation, safety and magic...with these characteristics who wouldn't love GREEN?
